Microlighting Questions when flying along the North Coast.
Microlighting is an intimate experience. You’re above ever-changing landscape with the Indian Ocean at your feet.
Microgliding is possibly one of the best ways to experience something adventurous, new and exciting. With the wind in your hair, this is hands-down the most amazing way to see our coast.
We offer a variety of flight times ranging between 8min (T&C’s) – 1 hr, depending on how far along the coast you would like to fly. It can be arranged to film an HD copy of your flight which we burn to disc for you while you wait. There is a Shell Ultra City across from us where you may purchase drinks or a snack while at Comefly!. Many Microlighting Questions are asked on the day of the booking. Let’s look through some common ones asked.
Frequently asked Microlighting Questions :
Will I be flying the aircraft?
We have trained pilots who will fly you as a passenger.
What should I wear?
We advise wearing closed shoes and long pants. Although it may be warm weather it could become chilly in the air. We recommend bringing a wind breaker or warm jacket with and encourage the customers not to wear loose earrings or jewellery that may fall off. Caps/hats and sunglasses are not worn while on the microlight. We have tinted goggles for people who experience problems with the sun and try our best to fit our goggles around prescription spectacles to ensure a satisfied trip for all.
What is the maximum weight of a passenger?
The maximum weight of an ultra light aircraft when taking off may not exceed 450kgs. We recommend that our client max weight restriction is 120kgs.
What is the minimum age requirement?
To ensure safety for all, we will not fly anyone younger than 9 years in a microlight.
What weather can we fly in?
For safety, we do not fly in winds stronger than 20kts (36kmph). Consequently, our guests are assured a safe and enjoyable experience. We do not fly in the rain.
Where can we take off from?
Comefly! Pilot Centre is regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority. Therefore we may only operate from an aerodrome or airfield approved for the purpose of microlight flights.
What height do we go to?
We climb to 100m above the sugar cane fields on the way to the coast.
How many people can fly in the microlight at one time?
There is space for the pilot and one passenger.
Where do we fly to?
Depending on the length of the flight booked, we fly along the coast line between Ballito and The Tugela River Mouth. In addition to this, other flight plans may be arranged.

Microlight Flight North Coast Adventure to the Tugela River
Microlight Flight North Coast Adventure to the Tugela River.
We chose a location – The Tugela River, and rounded up a group of friends. As a result we set our wings for an adventure along the coast.
After a long day at the office in the sky a few pilots and I were chatting about the reasons why we fly instead of movies or pubs. Shopping with the wife or mountain bikes…. Our all round conclusion? There’s nothing better then being one with the earth. Why not fly?! So, we rustled up a few mates, loaded up the trikes and headed out.
We chose a beach landing at the Tugela River (What better way to wake up!). Loaded with sleeping bags, cooler boxes, fire wood, food and all else needed, and arrived just before sunset. Fire lit and thirsts quenched, the mood relaxed and the stories began.
The photos tell it all. A great time spent with mates and our beautiful flying machines. What more? Adventure flights along the coastline. Not something everyone gets to do, but definitely a must for those land and sea lovers, lovers of life and adventure.
Therefore if you ever find yourself asking the question, “What to do along the Ballito and North Coast area?”. Then give us a call at Comefly! Microlights, and let us set up a your own Microlight Flight North Coast Adventure to the Tugela River
Smiles just tell the tale of loving the microlight flying along the Ballito Dolpin Coast
Over the years, microlight flying is what I have shared with thousands of happy customers along the Ballito, Dolphin and North coast beaches. In earlier years, before King Shaka International Airport relocated, our microlight flying routes included Umdloti Beach and Umhlanga Rocks.
3 most common things said by our passengers:
Damn it, I should have chosen a longer microlight flight,
Damn it, my battery is flat, and
Wow should actually be number 1, as when we turn onto the coast almost every single person that I have flown with, takes a breath and says, “WOW!”..
What a great job, to be able to offer these microlight flights along the Ballito and Dolphin Coast beaches, and as a result, be able to give so much joy to so many folk. My turn to say, “WOW!” :))
Thank you to everyone who has ever chosen to experience a microlight flight with us at Comefly Microlights, along the Ballito, Dolphin and North Coast beaches.
Trevor, from Newcastle. His trike & topless wing.
Trevor, from Newcastle, bought himself this trike and I supplied a topless wing. He drove down yesterday for me to fit the wing. 6 hours later, the fruits of my labour..an awesome wing, so easy to control. After countless short flights to trim the wing, I invited him to ‘hop in’ so I could test it with a full load..little did he know I was going to take him for a coastal jolly
